"The Old Rockweeder"

This carving was commissioned by Acadia Seaplants Ltd. It sits in their main office. They asked me to create a carving of a fisherman harvesting the seaweed we call rockweed (ascophyllum nodossum). They wanted the scene to be from a long time past but to show the design of the harvestor's rake. They came up with this design to make sure enough of the seaweed would be left on the rocks to ensure regrowth and renewable supply.

The building of the skiff took some time and I thought iturned out well. This type of skiff was common in our area up until the early 1960's. They were easy to row around the rocks and in our strong tides.
